Colorado SB 20-217
This year has brought so many challenges (COVID, the tragic death of George Floyd), but also so many unexpected and happy milestones (calls for real systemic change, starting my own firm). During the early days of quarantine, I started a podcast with my good friend from law school, Stephanie.
We cover a variety of personal, legal, and other topics. This past episode, we discussed the passage of Colorado Senate Bill 20-217, the Law Enforcement Accountability Act. This groundbreaking and important legislation ends qualified immunity in Colorado, changes the ways that police can use force against protestors and suspects, and makes sure that officers that are fired from their jobs for excessive use of force cannot work elsewhere in the state.
Please take a listen if you would like to learn more and we will continue to follow this legislation as it begins to be applied in real world settings.
If you are facing criminal charges from the police using force against you, it is imperative that you speak with an attorney. Power Law can help navigate the complicated evidentiary hoops you need to jump through in order to assert your rights in cases like this.
