Amelia uses her legal training to care for clients at every step of their case. A former Arapahoe public defender, Amelia’s private practice focuses on a holistic and strategic defense. Whether defending the first amendment rights of protestors, guiding a person through their first DUI, or standing next to a juvenile accused of a serious crime, Amelia understands the stakes of a criminal case and what can be done to achieve the best outcome possible.
In March 2020, Amelia began Power Law. Power Law’s goal is to provide high quality legal representation with a comforting touch. Power Law has worked to make representation affordable since its inception - a great defense should not be contingent on how much money you have. Amelia wants every Power Law client to feel valued and listened to as they go through the criminal justice process.
Amelia began her legal career in high school and worked as a paralegal in large Denver law firms for several years before beginning DU Law School. She spent two years as a Student Attorney in the Criminal Defense Clinic, learning to strategically litigate cases through hands-on experience with real clients. Amelia also shared her enthusiasm with other students, working as an Academic Achievement Student Leader in Criminal Law. In 2015, Amelia graduated in the top 15% of her class and received the award for Outstanding Criminal Defense Clinic Student upon graduation.
After graduation, Amelia started at the Arapahoe County trial office of the Colorado State Public Defender. During her years as a Deputy Public Defender, Amelia handled thousands of traffic, misdemeanor, and felony cases. Practicing in both adult court and juvenile court, Amelia learned the importance of uncovering each client’s unique story. Through careful negotiation, extensive mitigation, and strong litigation – including many jury trials – Amelia worked diligently to meet each client’s goals in both misdemeanor and felony cases.
After leaving the public defender's office, Amelia worked as a Senior Associate for a boutique criminal defense firm specializing in cases with a mental health component. Amelia argued bond, prepared mitigation, litigated issues related to competency, presented mental health defenses, and worked with experts in this area. In 2019, Amelia extensively litigated and won several dismissals for clients suffering from mental health issues utilizing recently enacted legislation.
Amelia is married to her wonderful husband, Drew, and has two amazing children.
